different neighborhoods of the city in the
commercial center were built

At the end of the 1800s, more and more people were
moving to cities. At the same time, factories were
being built. The railway was built at this time, passing
through the city center. After 1930, factories and
houses were built to house the workers.
2010 Zoning Status
After Anadolu University opened, the
number of students in the city increased
quickly. The old workers’ housing that
was north of the railway became tall
buildings with many apartments.
University Student Neighborhoods of the City
Anadolu University became the city’s prominent driving force
towards 2000 and shaped the city’s economy and morphology.
Rising number of young population caused significant developments on social and cultural functions of the city

As the city developed around the Anadolu University new
buildings were constructed around the old factory buildings. including entertainment venues, office-residence
buildings, and places to live. However, the old factory
buildings and the empty spaces between the railway and
the factories are still unusead and in disrepair.

The undefined spaces around factory buildings or the areas
of factory buildings that have been demolished create empty
spaces.

In 2014, an additional wing for the high-speed train was
put into service, and since then it has created new paths
for the citizens.
entertainment district
The character of the area has shifted to a night-time
entertainment district with commercial units housing pubs
and nightclubs on the ground floor.
